Regional linkages:
The small industry has clear linkage dimension as most of the raw materials like wheat, soya bean and maize are procured from hinterland areas of Nepalgunj as well as Pyuthan and Surkhet. Thanks to concerted efforts on part of RUPP Nepalgunj, Annapurna Swasthkar Lito has expanded its market beyond Nepalgunj and to municipalities where RUP-Programme has been implemented. The baby food is also becoming very popular in areas like Pyuthan, and Guleriya, as it offers an extremely cost effective option to brand name products - something that is beyond reach of majority of parents. As such the enterprise is also seen as a worthwhile initiative not only because of its commercial viability, but also in terms of its contribution in providing a nutritional substitutes in a cost effective and affordable manner.
Over the months, Angit and his team seem to have improved upon their marketing skills as evidenced by the improvement in quality control mechanism and the packaging of the product. They have also undertaken various promotional activities like publishing leaflets and calendars, etc. They are confident that they will be able to expand the market of this product further provided they manage to pool sufficient resources to finance their growth.
This is one of the clear cases where RUPP's presence in a number of municipalities has been capitalized to promote an entrepreneurial venture by transcending municipal boundaries.
